The advisory, which was issued following the discovery of a force main break at the Tarrytown Sewer Pump Station on Monday, July 10, was lifted by the Westchester Department of Health on Friday, July 14.
Officials had previously warned residents to stay out of the water because the discovery of the force main break had forced partially treated sewage to be temporarily dumped into the river at River Street in Sleepy Hollow.
The 30-inch break has since been repaired and sewage is no longer being released into the river, according to health officials. The advisory was lifted after the results of river water samples were reviewed.
Now that the advisory is lifted, swimming can resume at the following beaches on Friday:
- Croton Point Beach in Croton-on-Hudson;
- Phillipse Manor Beach in Sleepy Hollow.
